Norma and Adalgisa - The Black Tie Ensemble

The Black Tie Ensemble will stage four opera vignettes during 2010, as part of the Sunday Morning Concerts. The first of these opera vignettes will be Vincenzo Bellini's Norma and will take place on 25 April at 11:00 in the Enoch Sontonga Conference Complex, UNISA Sunnyside Campus, Pretoria.

Bellini's Norma has been deemed as the ultimate tour-de-force of the entire belcanto repertoire. BTE's Norma vignette will consist of Act I scene 2 and Act II scene 1.

Loveline Madumo will sing the title role of Norma with Goitsemang Lehobye as Adalgisa, Tshepang Wolf as Pollione and Caroline Nkwe as Clotilde.

The original setting of this opera is Gaul BC, under Roman occupation. The Black Tie Ensemble has moved the setting to accomodate the space of the Enoch Sontonga Conference Complex to a Roman Catholic Church in France during World Warr II.

Dr Mimi Coertse, who sang the role of Norma in South Africa and internationally, together with Arnold Cloete, will bring this emotional triangle of foribdden love to life.
