Nursing in SA

Hi, I am moving to Pretoria in the next 6 months from Texas and I was wondering if you could tell me what nursing is like in SA? (I am a Registered Nurse) Is there a shortage? What is an average salary? Do you think it would be difficult to get a work permit since I am a nurse? In the United States nursing is a respected profession. Is it the same in SA? Would I most likely need to drive to Jburg to find work? So many questions! Any additional information you could share would be appreciated. Thanks for the wonderful blog!

Thanks for stopping by and for the compliment. Actually the media reports the shortage in nursing in SA. My sister-in-law is a nurse and from my observation, there is a lot of jobs in nursing. Some nurses work for more than one employer.

I wouldnt expect you to struggle to get a nursing job in Pretoria.
