Accommodation close to Medical Research Council

In connection with a research exchange at the Medical Research Council, I will be staying in Pretoria from the middle of October to January. I will not have a car, and would appreciate an easy access to the MRC(situated in Soutpansberg Road 1). Furthermore, I would truly appreciate living in rather safe surroundings.

Do you have some recommendations on where to live? I have an offer in Riviera. Is this a suburb you would recommend? I am looking forward to receiving your response.

Riviera is a suburb I would highly recommend. It is in what is known as a Moot (Afrikaans word pronounced Mwot)area. Close to town and very close to the Soutpansberg Road. Whilst most of Pretoria struggles with public transport, the area has a reliable bus system.

Riviera is really not one of the best suburbs Pretoria has to offer. However, it is very quiet and peaceful. A traditional setup with big old houses. The majority of the people are Afrikaans speaking but fully bilingual.

Pretoria East, which is a different area is more convenient for a shopaholic. It has malls everywhere. But I dont think it will be suitable for you. You would definitely need a car to live in Pretoria East or far North. So Riviera is your best place to stay.
