Die Hoerskool Gerrit Maritz also known as Gerries, is one of the high schools in Pretoria East. Hoerskool Gerrit Maritz is considered one of the top schools in the area, providing quality education to all of its students. This is the second high school established in January 16, 1956. Mr. JP Malan was its very first acting principal. During the first year, the school had 321 students and 16 members of staff.

It was on the year 1957, that Gerrit Maritz got its name. The motto of the school is "Serve and Conquer". The official colors of the school are white, red and black. In 1958, their first carnival fundraising event was very successful and they were able to raise their A R1000. The school's badge was created by Ms. Muller, an art teacher. During the first five years, they were using temporary buildings only. It was in October 25, 1960 that the new school building was in use. It was in 1964, that the new tennis courts were built. In 1964, the sport pavilion with 1000 seatings was also inaugurated. The first school bus with 80 seats was purchased in 1965. Then in the year 1975, they achieved 1000 student population. They created a new song in 1976, and this was written by Connie Rudolph and composed or arranged by Pierre Malan.

In 1981, Mr. JJ Jacobs was appointed as a new principal. In 1983, the new gymnasium was completed and used. The Gerries Supporters Club was founded in 1994 by its Chairman, Mr. Hans Grundling. The first editorial newspaper released its first edition in 1996. In 2011, Mr. Martin Botha became the head of Gerrit Maritz.
