The area has a tranquil and calm impression, because of the tree lined avenues and jacarandas. The school was established in January 1988 with only 310 students and 15 staff members. In 1989, NJ Pepler was appointed as the first permanent headmaster. The school's population grew under the guidance of Pepler. The school became famous and it was known as the dynamic academic establishment in the area of Eastern Pretoria. After Pepler, DD van Zyl took over in 2000 and the school attained strong academic record and became one of the top schools in Gauteng.


Garsfontein Hoerskool is an Afrikaans medium school with high Christian ideals and has a very strong community focus while it maintains it strong academic and sporting records, as well.

Garsfontein Rugby
Even though Garsies is still a young school, they already established themselves as a competitive team in school rugby through leagues in Pretoria. Each year, Rugby is continuously growing. Today, the school has 13 teams and it is still growing each year. The team had been very successful in PUK series with a lot of teams winning in their respective age groups. The second Rugby team made their history in the year 2008. They won their very first title for Garsies at under 19 level with a victory against Zwartkop.
