The Afrikaanse Hoer Meisieskool serves as a home to more than 800 Afrikaans school girls, and this is also the sister school of Afrikaanse Hoer Seunskool. The development and establishment of the school is part of the Afrikaner history and appreciation of Afrikaans as a home language. The building plans for the main building were created by the Department of Education in 1924. Based on a publication written by C.J. Langenhoven, in 1914, there was a requirement for an Afrikaans high school in Pretoria and this was a very important issue for the two community leaders, namely, Chris Neetling and Jan Joubert. It was on February 4, 1919 that a team of passionate Pro-Afrikaners decided to meet to investigate the possibility of having an Afrikaans High School. On January 28, 1920, 44 students and 3 teachers gathered together at Genl. Piet Joubert's house, Visagie str 218. This was the opportunity, that Afrikaans-speaking people were waiting.

The very first Afrikaans High School in Pretoria was built five years prior to the official acknowledgement of Afrikaans. Since then, the number of scholars grew fast that a temporary building needs to be constructed right away. In 1924, parents demanded a new school building for high school and the Department of Education immediately released plans for building constructions. In 1929, the school building was too small to hold all of the pupils, so the school council decided to separate the girls and the boys just to hold of them in two different schools.

The two storey high schol building features a lovely red brick facade, with the main entrance in the center facing north. There is a small veranda above the entrance. The building has four staircases with wood and steel balustrades. There are two beautiful rose-beds and a half-circle driveway in front of the main building.
